Billye Eugene Martin, 78, passed from this earthly life Monday, March 1, 2010. A longtime resident of Tahlequah, Billye is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie, and three children, Bobby, Bekki and Billye, all of Tahlequah. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born in 1931 in Pierce, Oklahoma, to Raymond and Jessie (Rhoades) Martin.
Billye served honorably as an officer in the U.S. Army in peacetime Germany. After brief stints as a teacher and insurance salesman, he enjoyed a long career as an employment counselor for the Oklahoma State Employment Commission, from which he retired in 1986.
Billye was a devoted and loving husband, father and granddad, and he will be deeply missed. He was an avid crossword puzzler and gardener, and loved being outside tending to his tomatoes and cucumbers. He will be laid to rest with a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma on Thursday, March 4 at 2 pm. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, and Wednesday March 2nd and 3rd at Green Country Funeral Home in Tahlequah, and at graveside prior to the
service.
