Cheryl was an exceptional student, excelling in school. Graduating as valedictorian from Fort Gibson in 1971. She went on to Northeastern State University where she received degrees in biology and chemistry. While attending Fort Gibson High School, she met Gary Walters. The two were wed on March 24, 1972. Cheryl and Gary spent the next 48 years together working hard and raising children and grandchildren. Cheryl is survived by husband Gary of the home. Son Jeffery and his wife Jamie, of Tahlequah and their two children, Benjamin and Kal. Son Kevin and wife Michelle, of Keys and their children, son Tristan and daughter Teela. Daughter Lindsey and husband Joel of Little Elm, Texas, and their sons, Kobe, Jaxon, and Grayson. Along the way, Gary and Cheryl fell in love with Christine Gonzales and her daughter Des Phipps and brought them into our family. Cheryl was a very determined individual who valued hard work and excelled in everything she did. As hardworking as she was, Cheryl enjoyed many different hobbies from photography, cake decorating, upholstery, and on occasion, sipping apple pie moonshine. Cheryl loved sewing, raising flowers, cooking her children and grandchildren’s favorite dishes, such as cinnamon rolls and lasagna. She spent much of her free time doing genealogy research and taking bus trips with Gary. Above all else, Cheryl loved her family and nothing brought her greater pride and joy than her grandchildren. For Cheryl, her greatest accomplishments were her grandchildren and she cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was a shopping trip with Teela, attending one of Tristan’s football games, Des’s basketball games, Ben’s performances, or baking Christmas cookies with Kobe, Kal, Jaxon, and Grayson, or just having any of the kids stay at “Homa Homa” Grandma’s house with her and Pa Pa. She loved big and lived well. We love you, Homa Homa Grandma.
