David Grover Morris

August 10, 1951 - February 7, 2021

David Grover Morris was born on August 10, 1951 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Sam Sr. and Olelah Morris. He graduated from Haskell Indian Jr College and he retired from Haskell after 35 years of service. While in Lawrence he was a member of Indian Avenue Baptist Church and was attending Eldon Baptist church in Tahlequah at the time of his death. He entered into his heavenly home on February 7, 2021 at the age of 69. David grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and he graduated from Riverside Indian school in Anadarko, OK. He relocated with his parents to Lawrence, KS where they were called to minister to the Haskell campus. Growing up and continuing into adulthood he loved watching various levels of sports. He was a great sports enthusiast by recalling stats on players and teams. David also enjoyed 50’s and 60’s music, especially The Beatles. He cherished his family and some of his fondest times were when his family would gather, playing games, eating, and laughing and on occasion his Ric Flair impression would make an appearance. He was a lively character. He really enjoyed being around others especially the family dog, Rory. David was the type of person who never knew a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He was one of the friendliest and most welcoming people you’d ever meet. To this day he’d tell you about someone and where they were from like it was the first day he’d met them. Most importantly David loved Jesus. Throughout his life as a missionary and preacher’s kid, he understood the importance of the gospel. He always remembered to cover missionaries around the world with prayer. We’ll miss him here on earth but we know he is in his heavenly home. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Sam Sr. and Olelah Morris, and younger brother, Mark. Surviving family include, his brothers, Sam, his wife Carol and their children Brian Morris and Alicia Shelton, Joe, his wife Linda and their sons Jeremy, Mitchell, and Bradley Morris, and John, his wife Tracie and their daughters Kelly Berryhill, and Lindsey Morris. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews, many cousins and extended family. Funeral services for David Morris will be held at Only Way Baptist Church in Stroud, Ok on Saturday, February, 13th at 1:00 pm with Jess French officiating. Internment will follow at Stroud Cemetery, under the direction of Green Country Funeral Home.
