Elmer Dean Duncan

December 8, 1935 - April 9, 2022

Elmer Dean Duncan, 86, journeyed home to be with his Savior surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 9, 2022. The final touches on his mansion were finally complete! Elmer was born on Sunday, December 8, 1935 at the family homeplace in Okemah, Oklahoma, the son of Charley Alexander Duncan and Myrtle Elizabeth (Wallace) Duncan. Elmer was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma and attended Bearden School where he graduated high school in 1953. According to his recollection, he received swats daily whether he needed them or not. Elmer saw the love of his life walking down the street and decided he would marry “that girl”. Elmer Duncan and Janis Weatherly were married on June 20, 1958. From their union were born two daughters, LaRhonda and Deena. Elmer and Janis were married for almost 64 years. He was a hardworking man, a machinist by trade, who built aircraft parts including components of shuttles traveling to space. Although Elmer never had a background in construction, he decided to build a house for his family. He purchased the local high schools’ carpentry textbook and began to build his family home near Leach, Oklahoma where they lived for many years. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and made many wooden toys that were fought over at church Christmas parties. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Elmer leaves behind a wonderful legacy to all those who loved him. Elmer is survived by his wife, Janis Duncan, of the home; daughter LaRhonda Hummingbird and husband Stann, of Tahlequah, daughter Deena Blossom also of Tahlequah, honorary daughter Patricia Hoagland of Okemah; grandchildren Andria Hummingbird, Stephanie Lander, Bill Blossom, and Brandi Blossom; great grandchildren Jordan Blossom, Hayden Lander, Ruxton Hummingbird, and Jace Lander. His grandchildren and great, grandchildren were the joy of his life. He is also survived by one brother, Jimmy Duncan of Shawnee, Oklahoma and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Myrtle Duncan; siblings Raymond Duncan, Frank Duncan, Betty Lou Armstrong, and Homer Duncan, and grandson Steven Hummingbird.
