Jerry Wayne Hood

January 25, 1948 - February 16, 2021

January 25, 1948 in Henryetta, Oklahoma and went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 16, 2021 at the age of 73. Jerry lived in Morris, Oklahoma till he was in the 9th grade when his family then relocated to Tahlequah. Graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1966, then attended NSU for his Bachelor’s & Masters then furthered his career to become a Principal/Superintendent at University of Arkansas. He was drafted into the Army in 1970 during the Vietnam War but was blessed enough to become a passport clerk in Boeblingen, Germany since he knew how to type. When he came back from the Army, he built Indian homes for the Cherokee Nation. Then taught Industrial Arts at Sallisaw for a year. He then became the Carpentry teacher at Tahlequah High School for many years, after that became the assistant principal for the junior high. In 1995 he got his dream job of becoming Superintendent at Keys School. In 2002, with a lot of hard work & determination his vision for a high school at Keys became a reality. Jerry loved Keys School & he loved all his teachers & employees. He retired from Keys Public Schools in 2012. Since his retirement, he has continued to enjoy his work as a farmer raising cows & pigs. He married the love of his life, Margaret Helen Elkins, on August 23, 1968 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. They shared 52 years of life and marriage together. With his hard-working hands, he built their forever home on a farm in Keys. They had three children, Darrell Wayne Hood, Jerrod Keith Hood, & Kaci Dian (Hood) Reisner. His kids & grandkids were his life; he enjoyed coaching, teaching, & going to all their many activities. He was active & very faithful to his church Exciting Southeast Baptist in Tahlequah. Jerry was also the Cherokee County Swine Superintendent & was very active with 4H & FFA. He loved raising show pigs with his kids & watching his children & grandchildren show. There weren’t many ballgames or activities that he missed & was always their biggest fan. Jerry also enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing with Yo Yo’s, & trying different places to eat especially with his “brother from another mother” as he would say, Tommy Phillips. He always had a smile on his face, never complained about anything, & gave the best advice to all. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Wilma Jean Hood, father John Harmon Hood, & brother Johnny Hood. Jerry is survived by a loving family which includes his brother Tommy Hood & wife Deidra of Tahlequah, OK; sister Donna Fogle & husband Jack of Stillwater, OK; his loving wife Margaret Hood of the home; children Darrell Hood & wife Samantha, Jerrod Hood & wife Robyn, Kaci (Hood) Reisner & husband David all of Park Hill, OK aka HOOD COMPOUND; 7 Grandchildren Lindsey Hood, Braxton Hood, Adison Hood, Levi Hood, McKenna Hood, Madison Hood, & Rylan Reisner, and many other relatives.
