Sue Dawn Root

March 31, 1954 - December 10, 2021

Sue Dawn (Wofford) Root was born March 31, 1954 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Lillian and Frank Wofford. She died on December 10, 2021 in Tulsa, Okla. Sue will be remembered as someone who was beautiful inside and out. She was everyone's beloved Aunt Sue. Ask of any of her loved ones and they'll tell you, "I was her favorite." She had a way of making you feel seen, cherished. Sue taught by example to take every chance to show love and gratitude. She was clever, witty, incredibly compassionate and generous. Sue is the reason for a million joy-filled childhood memories for all those who called her Aunt Sue. She was also the one to be there for others, full of love and support, in their times of deepest grief. She grew up in Tahlequah, graduating from high school there in 1972. She was an avid reader from a young age and throughout her life, often sharing books with those she loved. Her dad called her, "chooktooter." She was proud of her Cherokee heritage. Sue earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Bacone College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeastern State University, and a Master of Science in Family Nursing from the University of Texas. She was one of the first from Oklahoma to attend APRN school. Sue had an eye for beauty and enjoyed collecting antiques. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, enjoying music, having grand adventures traveling the world, and doting on those she loved. She married Ronald Root in 2008, though in all they were together about 30 years. She loved the peacefulness of the Root Ranch in Kellyville, OK. and having her beloved pets there, often sharing pictures she'd taken of the beautiful scenery or of her fur babies. She was preceded in death by her parents; her dear Aunt Cloma Hicks, of whom she would say, "I try to be an Aunt like she was to me;” as well as her beloved older brother, Frank Wofford. Left to cherish and celebrate her memory are her husband Ron Root of the home; brother John (Laura) Wofford of Hulbert; sister Becky Stephenson, sister-in-law Teresa Wofford of Tahlequah; niece Amy (Robert) Bailey, nephew John C. (Angie) Wofford, niece Lisa Kindle (Cub) Whitewater, nephew John E. (Kerri) Wofford, nephew Chris (Melissa) Wofford, niece Kendra (Pete) Leigh, nephew Frank (Larken) Wofford, niece Lacey (Tyler) Davis, and nephew Josh Wofford; great nieces and nephews: Justin (Riann) Bailey, Zachery Bailey, Jake (Katie) Wofford, Tyler Wofford, Morgan Wofford, McKenna Wofford, Kaitlyn Wofford, Caleb Wofford, Destinee Leigh, Elizabeth Leigh, Rebekah Leigh, Lillian Wofford, Madilen Wofford, Milo Wofford, Eleanor Wofford, Lily Davis, Kenzy Davis, Harper Davis, Landon Wofford and great, great nephews and niece: Ethan Wofford, Austin Bailey, and Olivia Bailey; as well as her dearest friends and traveling companions Becky Stephenson, Joyce Smithling, and Sandy Corder. Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2 p.m. at Green Country Funeral Home with Nate King officiating. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Viewing is Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. for public and 6 - 8 p.m. for family. Services under the direction of Green Country Funeral Home.
